Tell me a bit about yourself?
My name is Antony Simpson and I am an Author (both fiction and non-fiction), Blogger, Nurse & Witch.
What sort of literature do you write?
I write niche non-fiction and fiction. Non-fiction wise I’ve written about the body and what can go wrong with it, emails to a friend who enlisted in the Royal Navy, a workbook for people with alcohol issues, a pagan book and a book about mental health.
Last year (2024), I realised my first fiction book, a YA book about a zombie apocalypse and teenagers with supernatural powers.
What inspires you to write?
My work as a Nurse has inspired a lot of my non-fiction work. My fiction work was inspired by every zombie apocalypse story, film and TV series I’ve ever read, along with the X-Men films.
How have your personal experiences influenced your writing?
My first book Mental Health Wisdom was influenced by my own experiences with mental illness.
My pagan book SpellCast – Folk Magic for the 21st Century was heavily influenced by my experiences as a Witch/Pagan.
My Royal Navy Friend was influenced by my friendship with my friend who enlisted.
The Alcohol Therapy Workbook, Ways The Human Body Can Go Wrong came out of wanting to help people to be healthy and happy.
The characters in Z-Virus Powers are all aspects of either myself or people that I know in some capacity.
Tell me what your latest creative work is about?
Here is the back cover text of Z-Virus Powers:
The Z-Virus mutates people’s DNA. The majority of infected people become zombies, but a minority seem immune but the virus causes them to develop powers.
At first these powers like invisibility, telepathy and telekinesis aided survival. But as the Z-Virus continues to mutate the powers become more and more destructive.
Forced with no other choice, one group goes in search of a cure. But will they survive the roaming zombie hordes long enough to make an epic journey across the country to find the cure?
What do you hope your readers will get from your latest creative work?Entertainment, enjoyment and an anticipation for the next book in the series Z-Virus Monsters which is out in October (2025).
What are you working on at the moment or what do you have planned for the future?
Z-Virus Monsters, due for release October 2025.
What is the most exciting thing and the most challenging thing about writing?
The exciting thing is getting an idea, developing it and making it a reality.
The most challenging thing I’ve found with writing is maintaining motivation and keeping focused without getting distracted by social media.
What advice would you give to anyone who wants to be a writer?
Go for it! Keep writing, as practice will improve your writing. Read lots too, by a variety of authors.
