Tell me a bit about yourself?
Former lawyer Caroline England, known as the ‘Duchess of Dark Domestic Noir’, is the author of seven psychological suspense thrillers, which include the kindle bestseller MY HUSBAND’S LIES and the forthcoming THE RETURN OF FRANKIE WHITTLE. She has also written four gothic-tinged psychological thrillers as CE Rose.
Caroline writes multi-layered, dark and edgy ‘domestic suspense’ stories, set in South Manchester and the surrounding areas, that delve into complicated relationships, secrets and the moral grey area. Drawing on her days as a divorce and professional indemnity solicitor, she loves to create ordinary, relatable characters who get caught up in extraordinary situations, pressures, dilemmas or crime. She admits to an obsession with the human psyche, what goes on behind closed doors and beneath people’s façades. She also enjoys performing a literary sleight of hand in her novels and hopefully surprising her readers!
What sort of literature do you write?
It is classed as crime fiction, but very much at the psychological end of the spectrum.
What inspires you to write?
I caught the writing bug about fifteen or so years ago and now. I’m fatally infected with the need to get stories down on the page!
How have your personal experiences influenced your writing?
Yes, my career as a Manchester city centre solicitor and later as a moderator have very much influenced what I write about. It has also helped my understanding of people and particularly recognising there are two, if not more, sides to every ‘truth’, which is why I loved to write about it!
Tell me what your latest creative work is about?
THE RETURN OF FRANKIE WHITTLE, out on 8th February 2025 is set in a fictional gated community, built on the site of a Victorian workhouse. The blurb is:

What do you hope your readers will get from your latest creative work?
I hope they will be entertained, shaken, a little spooked but also thought-provoked!
What are you working on at the moment or what do you have planned for the future?
I’m always working on something! I very much hope to continue getting Caroline England and CR Rose titles published.
What is the most exciting thing and the most challenging thing about writing?
As most authors will know, writing is an incredibly personal endeavour which requires a lot of tenacity as there are lots of knock-backs. Being published is an incredible honour, but it is also a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs. There is nothing like the high, though, which is why I belt up and stay stubbornly in my seat!
What advice would you give to anyone who wants to be a writer?
Don’t say you’ll write a poem or a short story or a novel one day, put pen to paper or your fingers on a keyboard and do it today!
